I’m no stranger to this hectic land but once in a while I somewhat wish that a day or two can be added. Crossing out things on the to-do-list gives relief especially if the task was done saving time and energy than what I expected. Nike’s tag line of Just doing it isn’t enough, it has to be done on an efficient manner.
So, in times when near impossible feats are required in work, how can you survive?
Planning
This goes on top of the list. Before anything else know what needs to be prioritized and understand how things should jive with other schedule you have. Take note of factors that you can’t modify, like being sent to a required seminar if you have a rush deadline. Have a time table for each task and adjust accordingly for unexpected additional tasks. Remember, the plan should be flexible, it should be adjusted when the need arises and during the work execution.Thinking Ahead
Imagine the results of the labor and how well you did the job…Then ask yourself, “In my current standing how can I possibly get there?”. Little by little you’ll be building the road on how to accomplish the load. List down also the things that you might need and the necessary materials, budget and skills. There are a lot of noobs in the world thinking… “well, when the need arises then I’ll just do what needs to be done…”. Just thinking about that is already consuming precious time.Delegate
Always try to distribute the load, never do so much because you’ll be the victim of over-reliance. Don’t try to do everything, God gave people skills to share it with others. That’s why if I already know that a task is beyond my capacity, I would courteously ask for assistance and give back the gratitude in the future or I just compensate them accordingly. Keep in mind, what you can save on time will be used for other tasks needed to be finished.Motivation
You have the skills, talent and time but lack fuel. Its like having an Aston Martin and being too lazy to drive it, such a waste. Also, never run out of fuel when your in the middle of the race. One should have an inclination to finish what he started and an impetus for excellence in concluding that assignment. One of my good friends shared this, “Work your butt off from Monday to Friday, and on Saturday reward yourself for a job well done. Then on Sunday, thank the LORD for the given strength for what was accomplish and ask for renewal for the days ahead”. A great advice to renew our spur in our endeavors.
Take Time Outs
“Even the best race horses needs to stop for hay…”. Don’t wait to stop because you can’t go any further. Take sometime to recharge then continue on with your tasks. You might very well be effective but how the undertaking was done and how admirable it was, is what really counts. Hey, if an F1 car needs to drop by the pit stop, and a sports team having time outs, then why can’t a hardworking guy like you take five?Having Fun
Challenges are part of our daily life. And the gamer in me seeks out for new ones to level up. So, unless your not really enjoying what your doing, although the pay-off is great it’ll just be dragging in the long run. I enjoy what I’m doing. Yes, I might be faced-off with titanic of a problem but if delight is what’s keeping you moving, eventually you’ll be scaling Everest without even knowing it.Last thing to take note is, Be a Smart Worker. Never be a Peon!
